A Stage Comes To West Union

Sponsors Press Release 2/10/10 from http://westunion-wv.com/events/stage.htm
Please patronize our generous Donors
A long held dream of many is actually happening due to the tireless efforts of Richard Kinney and his wife, Lynda.

We remember the fun of those Talent Shows that Jackie Lebel used to organize for the old Street Fairs - We remember the Beauty Contests held right downtown by the West Union Volunteer Fire Depart - all on a borrowed stage that is no longer available to us.

We so desperately need a stage- for Friday night music - for local talent display of any type! Some abortive fund-raisers were held.  The County Commission was petitioned for money for a gazebo on or near the Courthouse lawn.   The rest of us gave up on this impossible dream.  Not Richard!!

During the last year, a truck-bed was 'commandeered' and stripped down, a new axle provided, tons of scrap hauled and disposed of, volunteer labor and new materials begged and badgered for - and - as of January, 2010, the Town of West Union is working with the West Union Volunteer Fire Department 'to build a portable stage for WestUnionFest129'.  The stage would, of course, also be available for other community projects during the year.  Already, plans are underway to hold the WUVFD Beauty Pageant in conjunction with WestUnionFest on July 23, 2010.

Photos of the stage construction, and a list of Sponsors for this project will be listed on http://www.westunionfest.org/stage.htm

Richard and Lynda Kinney are working on the supplies for this project.  Thank you for any materials you can donate to this project.  If you have any questions, please contact Mayor Robert F. Fetty at 304-873-1400
